Exact layout or editable text?
- Exact layout
- Each page keeps its size, and every line of text sits in its own frame at the exact position, with its font, size and colour. Coloured boxes, lines, borders and charts become one picture behind the text, and photos are separate pictures you can move. Use it for brochures, forms, certificates, invoices and anything designed.
- Editable text
- The text is rebuilt as ordinary Word paragraphs, headings and bullet lists, with alignment, spacing, colours, highlights and underlines. Tables become real Word tables, pictures and charts sit between the paragraphs, and two-column pages are read column by column. Use it for reports, articles and letters you want to edit.
Hebrew and Arabic stay right to left, mixed with English and numbers.
Scanned PDFs (photos of pages) have no text to convert yet, and password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first. If a font from the PDF is not installed on your computer, Word uses a similar one, so lines in the exact layout can move slightly.
Your PDF stays on your device
The PDF is read and drawn in your browser with PDF.js, and the Word files are written there too, so the document is never uploaded to 4Dev or anywhere else. Files are limited to 50 MB because everything is built in your device's memory.
What the PDF to Word Converter does
The PDF to Word Converter turns a PDF into a real Word document (.docx) that you can edit in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer or Pages. It keeps much more than the words: fonts, sizes, colours, bold and italic, highlights and underlines, coloured boxes, lines, photos, charts and tables.
Every conversion gives you two files. Exact layout puts each line of text in a frame at its original position on a page of the original size, with the drawings behind it and the photos as pictures, so the document looks like the PDF. Editable text rebuilds ordinary paragraphs, headings, bullet lists and real Word tables that reflow as you type, with pictures and charts between them.
The PDF is read and drawn in your browser with PDF.js, and the Word files are written there too. Nothing is uploaded, so confidential contracts, invoices and reports stay on your device.
When to use it
- Correcting a typo or updating a date in a PDF when you no longer have the original Word file.
- Reusing the text, tables and pictures of a report or article in a new document.
- Filling in or adjusting a designed form, certificate or brochure while keeping its look.
- Translating a PDF: the editable text version is easiest to work on in Word or a translation tool.
- Going the other way with data: the JSON to Word (DOCX) Converter and JSON to PDF Converter pages create documents from JSON.
Worked example
report.pdf (2 pages: a blue title band, coloured text, a photo, a bar chart, a 3-column table)
report.docx looks like the PDF page by page; report (editable).docx has the title, the paragraphs with their colours, the photo and the chart as pictures, and a real 3-column Word table with the shaded header.
newsletter.pdf (two columns of text, a logo, a landscape page with a table)
The editable version reads the left column, then the right column, then the box below them; the logo sits next to the title, and the landscape page stays landscape.
Common questions about the PDF to Word Converter
Which of the two Word files should I use?
Use Exact layout when the document must look the same (forms, flyers, certificates). Use Editable text when you will rewrite or reuse the content; its paragraphs and tables reflow normally.
Can it convert scanned PDFs?
Not yet. A scan is a photo of a page with no text inside, so there is nothing to extract. PDFs exported from Word, Google Docs, browsers and most apps have real text and convert well.
Does it work with Hebrew and Arabic?
Yes. Right-to-left paragraphs stay right to left, mixed English and numbers keep their order, and Arabic letters come out as normal, searchable text.
Why do some lines move slightly in the exact layout?
Word needs the fonts used in the PDF. If one is not installed, Word picks a similar font with slightly different widths. Common fonts such as Arial, Times New Roman and Calibri line up closely.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The whole conversion runs in your browser; the file never leaves your device and nothing is stored.
