Which format should I pick?

MP4
The safest choice for video: H.264 video with AAC sound plays on every phone, computer, TV and website.
WebM
The open web format (VP9 or VP8 with Opus sound). Good for websites; older Apple devices may not play it.
MOV
Apple QuickTime. Choose it for Final Cut, iMovie or other Apple software that asks for MOV.
MKV
Matroska holds almost any codec, subtitles and chapters. Popular for archiving; not every phone plays it.
MP3
Sound only, plays everywhere. 192 kbps is a good balance; 128 kbps is fine for speech and podcasts.
M4A
Sound only, AAC in an MP4 file. Smaller than MP3 at the same quality; the native format of iPhone and iTunes.
WAV / FLAC
Sound only and lossless. WAV is uncompressed and large; FLAC keeps every detail at about half the size.
OGG
Sound only, Opus in an Ogg file. Excellent quality at low bitrates; not supported by some older devices.

It opens MP4, M4V, MOV, WebM, MKV, MPEG-TS, MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG/Opus and FLAC. AVI, WMV and FLV are not supported.
