What the Slug Generator does
The Slug Generator turns a title into a clean URL segment. It lowercases the text, removes accents (é becomes e, ü becomes u), replaces every run of characters that are not letters or digits with a single hyphen, and trims hyphens from both ends. The slug updates as you type.
The result contains only a-z, 0-9 and hyphens, which is safe in any URL, file name or database key without encoding. Short, readable slugs also help SEO: search results show the URL, and users trust a link such as /blog/creme-brulee-tips more than /p?id=4812. The conversion runs in your browser.
When to use it
- Creating the URL for a blog post, a product page or a documentation article.
- Naming files and folders from titles without spaces or special characters.
- Generating stable IDs for headings, anchors or CMS entries.
- Cleaning up branch names or test names that come from a ticket title.

What happens to non-Latin text such as Hebrew, Arabic or Chinese?
Characters outside a-z and 0-9 are removed, so a title written entirely in another script gives an empty slug. Write a short English or transliterated slug by hand for those pages.
Should I remove words like "and" or "the"?
Shorter slugs are easier to read and share, so dropping filler words is common. Keep the main keywords, and avoid changing a slug after the page is published, or add a 301 redirect if you must.
Hyphens or underscores?
Use hyphens. Google treats a hyphen as a word separator, while an underscore joins the words together. Hyphens are also the convention in almost every CMS.
How do I convert variable names instead?
For code identifiers, use the case converters such as camelCase to kebab-case Converter or camelCase to snake_case Converter, which split words at capital letters.
