What the Meta Tag Generator does
The Meta Tag Generator writes the basic SEO tags for the <head> of a web page. Fill in the title, description, keywords and author, and it outputs the matching <title> and <meta> tags, always starting with the UTF-8 charset and the responsive viewport tag. Empty fields are left out, and quotes and angle brackets in your text are escaped.
The two tags that matter most are the title and the meta description: search engines often show them as the headline and the snippet of your result. Aim for a title of up to about 60 characters and a description of 120-160 characters that says what the page offers. The keywords tag is ignored by Google but harmless, and some internal search tools still read it.
When to use it
- Launching a new page or a landing page and setting its search snippet.
- Fixing pages that Search Console reports as having missing or duplicate descriptions.
- Adding correct head tags to a static site or a single-page app template.
- Preparing SEO tags for a CMS that only accepts raw HTML.

Why does Google show a different description from mine?
Google rewrites snippets when it thinks another part of the page answers the search better. A description that clearly matches the page content is used more often.
Should every page have a unique title and description?
Yes. Duplicate titles make pages compete with each other and make it harder for users to pick the right result. Include the page's specific topic first and the site name last.
What about social media previews?
Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack and WhatsApp read Open Graph tags. Generate them with the Open Graph Tag Generator and add them next to these tags.
Where exactly do the tags go?
Inside <head>, as early as possible, with the charset tag first. The HTML Boilerplate Generator shows a complete page skeleton with the right order.
