What the CSV to Markdown Table does
CSV to Markdown Table turns comma-separated rows into a Markdown table as you type. The first row becomes the header, a | --- | separator line is added under it, and every following row becomes a table row. Quoted fields are handled, so a value such as "Smith, Jr." stays in one cell and a doubled quote ("") becomes a literal quote.
The result is GitHub Flavored Markdown, which renders as a table on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Notion, Obsidian and most documentation generators. Empty lines are skipped. The conversion runs in your browser, so the data never leaves your machine. For large files or other formats, the full data converter also turns TSV, JSON or Excel input into a Markdown table.
When to use it
- Pasting a spreadsheet extract into a README or a pull request description.
- Documenting API parameters, environment variables or a feature matrix.
- Posting benchmark results in an issue so reviewers can read them without opening a file.
- Preparing a table for a static site built with Markdown, such as Docusaurus or Hugo.

What happens if a row has fewer columns than the header?
The row is written with the cells it has. Most renderers fill missing cells with blanks, but it is cleaner to add empty values (two commas in a row) so every line has the same number of columns.
Can a cell contain a pipe character?
A | inside a cell ends the cell in Markdown. Replace it with \| after converting, or with the HTML entity |, and it will display as a normal pipe.
How do I align a column to the right?
Edit the separator line: ---: aligns right, :---: centres and :--- aligns left. Numbers are easier to compare when their column is right-aligned.
My file uses semicolons. Will it work?
This quick tool splits on commas only. The data converter detects semicolon and tab delimiters automatically, or you can replace the semicolons with commas first.
