What the QR Code Generator does
The QR Code Generator turns a URL or any text into a QR code that phones can scan with the camera. Type or paste the content and the code is drawn automatically; the Download button saves it as qrcode.svg. The page opens with a code for https://4dev.net so you can test your scanner.
The code is produced as SVG, a vector format, so it stays sharp at any size: on a business card, a poster or a slide. It uses a quiet-zone margin and medium error correction, which lets it scan even if a small part is dirty or covered. The text is sent to the 4dev.net server to draw the code and is not stored.
When to use it
- Linking a printed flyer, menu or poster to a web page.
- Sharing Wi-Fi details, a phone number or a vCard at an event.
- Opening a staging URL on a phone without typing it.
- Adding a link to a slide deck so the audience can open the resources.
Worked example
Input
https://4dev.net
Output
An SVG QR code (300 × 300) that opens https://4dev.net when scanned, saved as qrcode.svgCommon questions about the QR Code Generator
Do the QR codes expire?
No. The code contains the text itself, not a link to a tracking service, so it works for as long as the URL it points to works.
How much text can a QR code hold?
Up to a few thousand characters, but the more data, the denser the pattern and the harder it is to scan from a distance. Keep URLs short, for example by removing tracking parameters.
What is the smallest size I can print?
About 2 × 2 cm for a short URL that will be scanned from close up. As a rule, the scanning distance should be no more than about ten times the width of the code.
Can I put a logo in the middle?
Yes, after downloading. Medium error correction tolerates a small logo covering the centre, but test the result with several phones before printing.
