Free Online Password Generator

Generate a cryptographically random password - runs entirely in your browser using the Web Crypto API, so the password itself is never sent anywhere.

Lowercase letters (a-z) are always included.

What the Password Generator does

The Password Generator creates a random password in your browser using crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographically secure random number generator. Set the length from 4 to 128 characters (16 by default) and choose whether to include uppercase letters, numbers and symbols. Lowercase letters are always included.

Nothing is sent to a server or stored, and each click draws a new password. Strength comes mostly from length: with all four character groups there are 88 possible characters, so every extra character multiplies the number of combinations by 88. A 16-character password from that set has about 103 bits of entropy, far beyond what can be guessed by brute force.

When to use it

  • Creating a new account password to store in a password manager.
  • Generating a database, Wi-Fi or service account password during setup.
  • Replacing a password that was reused on several sites or appeared in a breach.
  • Producing a temporary password for a user who will change it at first login.

Common questions about the Password Generator

Is a password generated in the browser safe?

Yes. The password is created on your device with the Web Crypto API and never leaves it. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the generator still works.

How long should a password be?

Use at least 12 characters, and 16 or more for important accounts. Length matters more than symbols: a long password from letters and numbers is stronger than a short one full of symbols.

Why would I turn symbols off?

Some systems reject certain symbols, and some characters are awkward in config files or shell commands. Without symbols, add a few characters of length to keep the same strength.

How do I check an existing password?

Use the Password Strength Checker. For API keys and tokens rather than human passwords, the Random String Generator gives you more control over the character set.
