What the Random Number Generator does
The Random Number Generator picks one or more whole numbers between a minimum and a maximum, both included. Set the range, choose how many numbers you need (up to 100) and press Generate. Tick No duplicates to draw each number at most once, like drawing tickets from a hat.
Without the duplicates option each number is drawn independently, so the same value can appear more than once. With it, the range is shuffled with the Fisher-Yates algorithm and the first numbers are taken, so every number is equally likely. The numbers come from Math.random, which is ideal for games, raffles and sampling but is not meant for security.
When to use it
- Drawing raffle or giveaway winners from numbered entries.
- Picking random rows from a spreadsheet for a quality-control sample.
- Rolling dice for a board game or a classroom activity.
- Generating test values for a form or a unit test.

Are the minimum and maximum included?
Yes. A range of 1 to 6 can return 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, just like a die.
Why do I get an error with no duplicates?
You asked for more numbers than the range contains. From 1 to 10 you can draw at most ten unique numbers; widen the range or lower the count.
Can I use it for passwords or security tokens?
No. Math.random is not cryptographically secure. Use the Password Generator or the Random String Generator, which use the browser's secure random source.
Does it support decimals or negative numbers?
Negative ranges work, for example -10 to 10. Decimals are rounded inwards to whole numbers. For random decimals, generate integers and divide, for example 0-1000 divided by 100.
