How to encode text as Morse code

Encode text as Morse code instantly: type or paste text and the Morse code version appears as you type. Text is handled as UTF-8, so accents, emoji and every script work.

  1. Type or paste your input, such as SOS, into the box above.
  2. The result appears right away: SOS becomes ... --- ....
  3. Copy the result, or choose from 30 encodings in the From and To boxes.

How Morse code works

Each letter and digit is replaced by its International Morse Code sequence of dots and dashes. Letters are separated by spaces and words by a slash. Characters with no Morse code are left out.

Text and Morse code explained

Plain text is read and written as UTF-8, so accents, emoji and every writing system are supported.

Morse code writes letters and digits as short and long signals, shown as dots and dashes. Letters are separated by spaces and words by a slash.

Frequently asked questions

Is Morse code a form of encryption?

No. It only changes how the data is written, and anyone can reverse it without a key. Never use it to hide passwords or secrets.

Which character set is used?

UTF-8, the standard of the web. Accents, emoji and non-Latin scripts are encoded as their UTF-8 bytes and decoded back exactly.

Why does decoding give an error?

The input is not valid for the chosen encoding: a missing or extra character, a line break in the middle, or text that was encoded differently. Check that you copied the whole value.
