How to generate MD5 hashes
Generate the MD5 hash of any text instantly: type or paste text and the MD5 digest appears as you type, in lowercase hex, uppercase hex or Base64.
- Type or paste your text into the box above.
- The MD5 hash appears right away: the MD5 of hello is 5d41402abc4b2a76b9719d911017c592.
- Copy the hash, or switch between 17 algorithms and three output formats.
Is MD5 secure?
MD5 is broken for security: different inputs with the same MD5 can be made on purpose. Use it only to detect accidental changes, never for passwords or signatures.

What is MD5?
MD5 produces a 128-bit hash, shown as 32 hex characters. It is fast and still used for checksums and cache keys.
Frequently asked questions
Can MD5 hashes be reversed?
No. A hash is a one-way function: it can't be turned back into the text. Short, common inputs can still be found in lookup tables, which is why a plain hash must never store passwords.
Why does changing one letter change the whole hash?
Hash functions are designed so that any change to the input, even one bit, produces a completely different result. That makes them good for detecting changes.
Does the text encoding matter?
Yes. The hash is computed from the UTF-8 bytes of the text. Other tools that use a different encoding or add a line break at the end will give a different hash.
