Why convert AVIF to JPG?
AVIF is the newest web image format, based on the AV1 video codec. Files are even smaller than WebP, but many apps and older programs can't open them yet.
JPG (JPEG) is the classic format for photos. Its lossy compression keeps files small, but it has no transparency and slightly softens sharp edges and text.

Good to know
- AVIF opens in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. If your browser can't read it, the page tells you so instead of producing a broken file.
- JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas get a background color. White is the default; you can pick any other color.
- Animated AVIF images are converted from their first frame.
- JPG is lossy. At the default quality of 85 the difference is hard to see and the file is usually much smaller; raise the quality for images with fine text.
